Nettle Textile

Something old, something new – totally new plant-based luxury

In textiles we use Himalayan nettle known also as “Allo”. It is one of the strongest bast fibres on earth – up to the strenght of carbon fibre. It has good water absorption qualities, very well and due to the hollowness of nettle fibre, it is also warm.

Nettles grows wild in the Himalayan mountains on area of hundreds of hectares, where local women collect it by hand for further processing. After processing, the fibre is spun into yarn in Italy. Woven fabrics are manufactured here, in Finland.

For fabrics we use nettle fibre combined with other cellulosic fibres, such as Lyocell, which comes from Austria. Lyocell has also great water absorbing properties and, like nettle, it is naturally antibacterial. Combine the properties of these two fibres and you get quite exclusive products that contain no animal fibre.

We are happy to offer you these textile materials  – so you can develop your own designs, whether you are a designer, craftsman or a hobbyist – or otherwise just in love with nettles like we are!
